Sew-Caring Quilter's
The Sew-Caring Quilter's of St. Mark's meet twice monthly to create Quilts for
those in need. When they originally began the Quilt's were given to Lutheran
World Relief (LWR) to aid those who were in need.
The Quilter's now give all the quilts they produce for use in the Baghdad Military
Hospital. In conjunction with the Onsted Michigan American Legion Post, the
quilts are shipped directly to the hospital where they are given to those injured in
the war effort.
The Sew-Caring Quilter's have been recognized by the Combined Command in
Iraq, receiving a certificate of commendation and a US flag that was flown over
Iraq Headquarters on July 4, 2007. The group was also recognized by Soldier's
Angel's and presented with Service Coins for their work. While both of those
recognitions are very meaningful, it is the many cards and letters from Service
men and women or their family members that mean the most to them.
Although the quilts are made with donated material and time, each quilt still costs
around $10 to create due to batting and backing costs. If you would like to aid in
their work, volunteers are always needed, or donations can be sent to the:
